US warns famine in Sudan could become the world's deadliest

WASHINGTON, D.C.: Two U.S. officials have warned this week that the recently confirmed famine at a sprawling camp for war-displaced people in Sudan's Darfur region, threatens to grow bigger and deadlier than the world's last major famine 13 years ago.

The U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.N. World Food Program and other independent and government humanitarian agencies have called for a cease-fire
