The John Wick universe expands with new series produced by Keanu Reeves
The JWU (John Wick Universe) continues to expand with a new spin-off series, according to a new Deadline report. This one’s called John Wick: The High Table, named for the council of crime lords that rule the JWU’s underworld. It takes place directly after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, when the hierarchy of power in the JWU was changed after John took on the autem imperator. Keanu Reeves himself will serve as an executive producer on the series alongside the franchise’s director Chad Stahelski, who will direct the pilot. Robert Levine (co-creator of The Old Man) is on board as showrunner. According to Deadline, The High Table promises to “combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age.” The conclusion of Chapter 4 “left the world of the High Table in a tenuous position and a collection of new characters will look to make a name for themselves while some of the franchise stalwart characters remain committed to the old-world order.” No word yet on who the returning characters might be—Reeves isn’t committed to returning as an actor, but Deadline reports that he is “very hands-on with the project.”The High Table is the latest offshoot of the main John Wick franchise, coming after Stahelski signed a deal in January to oversee the expansion of the JWU across film, television, and other media. Last year, Lionsgate debuted the limited series prequel The Continental: From The World Of John Wick on Peacock. (Unclear if High Table will also end up there, but it was a good get for the fledgling streamer.) There’s also the long-awaited Ana de Armas spin-off Ballerina and another installment centered around Donnie Yen’s Caine. The John Wick films are a huge success story for an original action series, and franchises rule the day in Hollywood, so expect the JWU to continue expanding infinitely outwards.
