Cohoes man arrested on weapon, assault charges
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Cohoes man was arrested on Sunday following an assault investigation in Albany, according to police. Marc Malinowski, 38, is facing numerous charges.
On August 4 at 11:05 p.m., Albany Police responded to Central Avenue and Quail Street after receiving reports of someone with a weapon in the vicinity. During the investigation, officers learned that a woman was reportedly threatened with a gun and assaulted inside a car in the area, suffering a head laceration during the incident.
Police say the assault suspect, later identified as Malinowski, exited the victim's car and made his way to a bus stop near Central Avenue. He reportedly fled on foot as officers approached, but was taken into custody after a brief chase.
During the arrest, Malinowski was allegedly found to have a loaded handgun with him. According to Albany Police, a child was also inside the car at the time of the reported assault.
Officers say the child was uninjured during the incident. Malinowski was charged with the following offenses:
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Third-degree assault
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Second-degree obstructing governmental administration
Malinowski was arraigned on Monday morning at the Albany City Criminal Court before being remanded to the Albany County Jail.
