Albany man charged with carjacking an Uber driver
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany Police announced the arrest of Kevin White, 24, of Albany, following a carjacking investigation. White is accused of stealing the vehicle of an Uber driver.
On Monday around 2 a.m., police responded to Carlisle and Fordham Courts following reports of a robbery. Arriving officers learned that the victim, an Uber driver, was dropping someone off in the area when the passenger got out of the car, came around to the driver's door, and allegedly threw the driver to the ground before fleeing the scene in the victim's vehicle.
Shortly thereafter, officers located the car near Partridge and Yates Streets and attempted to pull it over, but police say the suspect, later identified as White, continued to drive off. After a brief pursuit, White reportedly stopped the car in a lot on Elk Street and attempted to run away on foot, but was quickly taken into custody. He now faces the following charges:
- Second-degree robbery
- Third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle
- Second-degree reckless endangerment
- Reckless driving
White was arraigned at the Albany City Criminal Court before being remanded to the Albany County Jail.
