With a successful first season in the bag, Silo Season 2 is now a matter of course.

Apple TV+ is on a science fiction, post-apocalyptic roll, and no one is complaining about Apple’s spending power in that arena.

As an avid book reader, Silo was on my reading list back when the author, Hugh Howey, was still uploading the Silo series (known as Wool, Shift, and Dust) via self-publishing means.

The books were fantastic and the first season of Silo did them justice, despite a few meandering, off-the-beaten-path changes here and there.

As per usual, the premiere season covers book 1 (Wool), and the end is where things get interesting.

Book 2 (Shift) is a prequel of sorts, covering a backstory that encompasses all the events leading up to book 1 — season 1 in this instance.

The big question is: will the story continue with Juliette Nichols’ adventures outside the silo? Or, will Apple break the immersion a bit and go with the order of the books?

Unlike some of these shows where everything is a theory and a guess, we have some solid information covering season 2, and where the story will go from here!

What Will Silo Season 2 Be About?

The thing that makes Silo so interesting is its reflection of the mysterious histories that fascinate us in the real world. Is history, as we know it, an accurate depiction of past events?

(Courtesy of Apple TV+)

How much of it is accurate and not subject to the bias of the victorious?

How much have the powers that be altered history to suit their personal pursuits? Silo is a constrained, dystopian rumination of these real-world issues.

The remainder of the world population, devastated by some unknown event, survives deep within the earth, protected from the horrors without and subject to the governance of their system.

They are at the mercy of their government, which itself is backed by a secretive technocracy fueled by the surveillance state it has created. It’s not hard to imagine such an entity falsifying history.

Silo Season 2 will pick up where the cliffhanger of Season 1 left us, as Juliette ventures into the wasteland outside her silo. However, the second season will also incorporate elements of book 2 (Shift), which tells the story of what came before.

The thing that Hugh built is that there’s this great mystery of why are these people underground, why are they living like that, an when is going to be safe to go out? At the end of Season 1 we got to answer some questions and then, expand the universe.

-Screenwriter and creator, Graham Yost

There are no direct confirmations on how much of Shift the second season will cover. We do know that the historical rebellion will be a major part of the story.

Whether or not Season 2 will take us back to the creation of the Silo and the reasons for its existence is unclear.

This is probably the best route for the series to take.

Juliette is popular among the fanbase and abandoning her path, even if it bolsters the overall story, is too much.

Unfortunately, flashbacks are notoriously difficult to cover while successfully weaving them into the current narrative.

Judging by the success of season 1, Silo is in good hands, and hopefully, the showrunners can pull it off.

Who Will Star in Silo Season 2?

Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Tim Robbins, Avi Nash, Chinaza Uche, and Iain Glen are the biggest names in Silo and will reprise their roles for season 2.

  • Tim Robbins – Bernard
  • Common – Robert Sims
  • Rebecca Ferguson – Juliette Nichols
  • Avi Nash – Lukas Kyle
  • Dame Harriet Walker – Martha Walker
  • Rashida Jones – Allison
  • Chinaza Uche – Paul Billings
  • Rick Gomez – Patrick Kennedy

Steve Zahn is the biggest newcomer, and we won’t spoil his role in season 2. Suffice it to say, he will spend most of the season interacting with one of the main characters.

Unless Sheriff Holston is in a flashback, Sheriff Holston won’t reappear in season 2.

Well, it was a very unique job in that it’s a huge world, there’s a lot of people involved — but my character has been living alone for decades.

Outside of Steven Zahn, there are no major casting announcements.

If the flashbacks are a big deal throughout season 2, they will likely encompass existing characters in the Silo 18 universe, along with smaller, limited roles.

How Many Episodes Are In Silo Season 2?

Silo Season 2, like the first season, will feature 10 episodes. Unfortunately, we’re seeing a shift back to the old ways of releasing a single episode per week, and season 2 is not an exception.

On the bright side, a ten-episode release is a big deal these days, with many popular shows reducing their seasons to 8 episodes or fewer.

Each episode in season 1 features roughly 50 minutes of run time, for around 8.3 total hours. That’s about four feature-length movies.

Silo is exclusively on Apple TV+.

What’s the Release Date for Silo Season 2?

Currently, the release date is set for November 15, 2024. Of course, everything is subject to change but barring anything unforeseen, it will release on that date.

Are There Any Other Shows in Apple’s Fall Lineup?

If Silo is not your cup of tea, no need to worry.

Where’s Wanda, a dark comedy and part of Apple’s international release schedule, will hit the small screen on October 2. However, the show is in German, so you’ll have to read subtitles unless you’re fluent.

The thriller Disclaimer, starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline is a mid-October release.

If you prefer a more realistic thriller, without the nightmare dystopian, science fiction atmosphere, Disclaimer may be right up your alley.

It does come with a small dose of strangeness, however. Cate Blanchett stars as a go-get-em journalist who stumbles upon a novel in which she is the primary character.

Needless to say, all of her inner-held secrets are right there on the page. Interesting indeed.

Outside of that, Apple’s Fall release is slim pickings.

If you’re on the edge of your seat waiting for the release of Severance Season 2, we’re right there with you. Unfortunately, it won’t hit until January 2025.

The good news is — Silo Season 2, with its weekly release schedule, will flow right into Severance. Once you wrap one fascinating sci-fi adventure up, you can start unpackaging another!

So, what do you think of Silo Season 2? Are you as excited to see it as we are? Drop a comment below and let us know, along with what you thought about season 1.

For my fellow book readers out there (I highly recommend the trilogy by Hugh Howey), how close do you feel Silo Season 1 is to the book version?
