Kate Middleton Reportedly Wavered in Taking This Important Title in 2022

0

When we think of the “Princess of Wales,” some might think of Princess Diana while others think of Kate Middleton. After all, the two shared the same title as the wife to the heir to the British throne. But, as a source indicates, taking the late Diana’s title was far from an easy decision for Middleton.

According to Robert Jobson in his new biography, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, Middleton even considered refusing the title.

“She knew she’d inevitably be compared with Diana, whose untimely death had provoked such a tsunami of anger and grief,” Jobson detailed in his book, per Daily Mail. “And she was right. The similarities and differences between the two women were dissected ad infinitum and even discussed in the royal household.”

The comparisons between them were so extreme and “stressful” for Middleton that she reportedly began looking into other options. “Indeed, it got to the point where she felt she might follow Camilla (who opted to become Duchess of Cornwall) in refusing — when the time came — to be known as HRH Princess of Wales,” Jobson detailed.

But, as we all know, Middleton did eventually take the title when King Charles III ascended to the throne following Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022. At the same time Charles became King, William and Middleton became the Prince and Princess of Wales.

“In the end, however, she accepted her promotion with good grace, out of respect for her husband and the King,” Jobson remembered. “Enough time had passed to make the title more palatable, and Catherine had been on the world stage long enough to be appreciated for her own qualities.”

And, according to Jobson, Middleton and Diana are different in more ways than one.

“The truth is that she is very different from Diana: better educated, far more stable and less concerned about making a splash as a glamorous icon,” Jobson stated. “It matters less that the late princess was born an aristocrat while Catherine’s parents were solidly middle class.”

“Perhaps the most fundamental difference between the two Princesses of Wales is that Diana, who grew up in a broken home, lacked a foundation of security,” Jobson said of the late royal, who passed away tragically in a car accident in 1997. “By contrast, Catherine’s own childhood was blissful. Having enjoyed a secure and loving upbringing, she’s determined to replicate as many aspects of it as possible for her three children.”

Looks like Diana and Middleton have so many differences that perhaps their titles are the one thing they have in common. Kudos to Middleton either way for keeping her late mother-in-law in mind.
