Boy, 14, among first batch of ‘rioters’ in court over trouble across UK
A 14-year-old boy and ten men were due to appear in court following far-right riots last week across Merseyside.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with violent disorder at Clayton Square alongside ten others.
They are some of the first people to be charged with violent offences after disorder broke out across the country in the last few days.
The teenager was due to appear at Liverpool Youth Court this morning. The other men are expected at Liverpool Magistrates Court or Wirral Magistrates Court.
During an incident on St Luke’s Road, Southport, rioters set vans alight and targeted officers with bricks.

The group of rioters, who are believed to be from the English Defence League (EDL), also threw items at a local mosque.
Another protest held on Saturday at Pier Head in Liverpool also turned violent.
Officers were dressed in riot gear as a large mob targeted them with bricks and other debris.
Rioters charged since disorder broke out in Merseyside
- Derek Drummond, 58, of Pool Street has been charged with violent disorder and assault on an emergency worker.
- Declan Geiran, 29, of Kelso Road, Liverpool has been charged with violent disorder and arson (to a police vehicle).
- Jimmy Bailey, 45, of Station Avenue, Ellesmere Port has been charged with violent disorder.
- Lloyd Killner, 35, of Burton Road, Lincoln has been charged with violent disorder.
- Liam James Riley, 41, of Walton Road, Kirkdale has been charged with violent disorder.
- William Morgan, 69, of Linton Street, Walton has been charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.
- A 14-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, from South Liverpool, has been charged with violent disorder at Clayton Square.
- John O’Malley, 43, of Cambridge Gardens in Southport, has been charged with violent disorder after a group was seen showing aggression towards police.
- 44-year-old Gareth Metcalfe, also of Cambridge Gardens has been charged with violent disorder after a group was seen showing aggression towards police.
- Adam Wharton, 28, and of Selwyn Street in Kirkdale, has been charged with burglary with intent to steal at Spellow Library.
- Ellis Wharton, 22, has been charged with burglary with intent to steal at Spellow Library and assaulting an emergency services worker.
The far-right rioters then caused more chaos in other parts of the city including Walton.
Police described this riot as ‘serious violent disorder’ after the mob attacked businesses, police officers, and a library.
The news comes after a weekend of riots across large parts of the country – including in Rotherham where a Holiday Inn Express was targeted.
As a result of the devastation, four asylum seekers were forced to spend the night in woodland.
A clean-up operation is in place across large parts of the country following the chaos at the weekend.
Far-right extremists in Middlesbrough also set up ‘race checkpoints’ and asked drivers whether they are ‘white and English’.
Hundreds of the rioters gathered outside the Jamia Masjid Al-Madinah in the town on Sunday afternoon.
Men were stood in the middle of the road and in front of cars and were seen shouting, ‘Are you white’ and ‘Are you English’. Another is heard replying, ‘Yes, he is’.
