How ultra-rare 1p coin sold for whopping £140k at auction thanks to ‘unique’ 4 digits on back – do you own one too

A ONE pence coin was sold for a pretty penny at auction after the owner realised it was a rare find.

The elusive 1933 piece was bought for a mighty £140k according to a coin expert on TikTok.

Coin connoisseur and history enthusiast @CoinCollectingWizard shared details of the sale on his TikTok account where he has also collected 173.5k followers.

He said: “Usually these coins disappear into safes and are never seen again.

“So make sure you check your grandad’s old coin collection.”

In the video he describes how the digits on the penny makes it so valuable.

While there are other dates to look out for, there are only seven 1933 coins known to exist.

The last was sold for a staggering £140k and the collector predicts the next one to be found could be sold for even more.

“If so you are rich.

The iconic penny is now on display and attracts lots of visitors, the small change guru explained.

The coin’s wording converted from “New” to “You”, which saw the value sky-rocket all because of a change in three letters.
