Global stocks in shell shock, Japan index drops over 4,400 points

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - Stocks in Asia tumbled on Monday, extending the global rout which began late last week.

Japan's benchmark index, the Nikkei 225 plunged, with the key index down 13.40 percent at one stage.

At the end of the day, the key index had fallen 4,451.28 points or 12.40 percent to close at 31,458.42.

It was by far the biggest one-day points drop the index has ever experienced.
