1.2 tonnes rubbish pulled out of Paphos sea
Rubbish weighing 1.2 tonnes was collected from the harbour in front of Paphos castle on Sunday, among which old tyres, iron and even an armchair were found.
In just one hour, 12 divers collected the rubbish from the sea bed.
It included 200 metal boxes, 50 glass bottles, 27 car tyres, pieces of iron, fishing nets, and an arm chair.
“The seas are not rubbish dumps,” co-organisers of the clean-up Akti centre for study and research said.
Calling on people not to use the seas as such, Akti said “the sea is our life”.
Akti said the clean-up was carried out by them in addition to the Ports Authority, the Paphos naval police, Cydive and the Divers Paphos group.
