Organization of Islamic Cooperation urges implementation of UN resolutions in Gaza

0

Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, has called for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the need for UN resolutions to be enforced through global pressure.

Taha made these remarks during preparations for the 50th session of the organization’s foreign ministers in Jeddah on Monday, August 5.

He reiterated his opposition to Israeli attacks and urged for swift aid to be sent to vulnerable individuals in Gaza. While further details from the session have not been disclosed, reports indicate Taha addressed current situations in Afghanistan, Kashmir, and other Islamic countries, focusing on peace and security issues.

Despite global calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Israeli attacks on Gaza continue. Reuters recently reported that at least 44 people, including children, were killed following Israeli airstrikes on two schools and a hospital in Gaza.

Previously, member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation accused Israel of “genocide” against Gaza residents in the final statement of their 15th summit. In May of this year, the UN Security Council approved a US-proposed resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza with 14 votes in favor and one abstention from Russia.

The resolution, advocated by US President Joe Biden, includes three main phases: a comprehensive ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from densely populated areas of Gaza, along with the provision of humanitarian aid for Gaza refugees as crucial demands.
