Lakshya Sen vs Lee Zii Jia Paris Olympics 2024 Bronze Medal Match: When And Where To Watch Indian Shuttler In Action

Young Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has history beckoning for him as he gets ready to take on Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Monday (August 5). Sen, who was the first male Indian shuttler to reach the Olympic semifinals, heartbreakingly lost to defending champion and No. 2 seed Viktor Axelsen in straight games after giving a real tough fight to the Danish star.

The 22-year-old Indian star lost to Axelsen 22-20, 21-14 after holding multiple game points in the first. If Sen manages to get the better of Zii Jia, he will become the first Indian male shuttler to bag a medal at the Olympics.

Zii Jia lost Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the other semifinal. Vitidsarn will battle Axelsen for the gold medal later on Monday.

“Lakshya is an amazing player. He has shown in this Olympics that he is a very, very strong competitor and I am sure in four years from now, he will be one of the favourites to win the gold,” Axelsen was quoted as saying on ‘Jio Cinema’ after the semifinal win.

“An amazing talent and a great guy and I wish him all the best. He was playing so well in the big parts of both games, but I managed to relax and play the right game and win the match. But all credit to him as well,” he added.

Lakshya will be very hopeful of securing at least a bronze against Zii Jia, against whom he has a wonderful head-to-head record. Sen has defeated the Malaysian in 4 out of 5 matches between the two till date.

The two last faced off in the All England Open badminton championships earlier this year, with Sen coming out on top 20-22, 21-16 and 21-19. Lee’s one and only win over Lakshya came at the 2022 BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals with a 23-21, 21-9 margin.
