Portland's Opera in the Park returns with 'La Traviata'
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A free operatic performance is happening once again in the outdoors of North Portland Sunday night.
Celebrating its 22nd year, Opera in the Park Portland, will perform Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata" in Peninsula Park, as a part of Portland Parks and Recreation's Summer Free For All events for 2024.
The 1853 tragic opera centers on Violetta, a Parisian courtesan who aims to leave her current life and find true love. When she meets Alfredo, their love becomes threatened by the constraints of upper-class society.
In a statement on their website, Opera in the Park said they have put together "a stellar cast of internationally acclaimed singers, and full chorus and orchestra" for this performance.
The event is completely free and open to the public, with the show starting at 6 p.m.
More Summer Free For All concerts for this season include R&B duo Beat Frequency, Edna Vazquez with Mariachi Portland, as well as Hip-Hop in the Park.
