TOP TEN FOR AUSTRALIAN PAIR IN SWEDEN

Australian teenagers James Anagnostiadis and William Calleja both recorded impressive top ten finishes in the final round of the Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship in Sweden at the weekend.

Anagnostiadis’ drive in the final of the OK-Junior category was one of pure grit and determination. After starting the final in 27th position, the Victorian charged his way through the field in the wet conditions to secure ninth place at the chequered flag – one place ahead of fellow Australian, Calleja.

In the OK category, Lewis Francis narrowly missed out on a top ten finish after crossing the line in 11th place in the final.

Queensland Ky Burke set the tone for the Australian contingent in the first final of the weekend when competing as Australia’s representative in the final round of the 2024 FIA Karting Academy Trophy.

With rain soaking the circuit just prior to the start of the finals, Burke was the hard charger in the one-make category which has identical karts and engines supplied by the OTK-Group. After starting from 19th place, he was battling for a spot inside the top five with a handful of laps remaining before Slovakian Jakub Gasparovic made contact with Burke ending the Australian’s race.

British driver Joe Turney was crowned the OK European Champion following a resounding victory while second place for the round was enough for Belgian Dries van Landendonck to claim the Junior title.  Dries van Landendonck’s fellow Belgain driver Gilles Herman also finished second in Sweden to become the 2024 FIA Karting Academy Trophy Winner.
