SANDGATE, Vt. (NEWS10)-- Troopers say a Sandgate man turned himself in at the Vermont State Police Shaftsbury barracks for a car crash on Monday, July 15, on SE Corners Road. Troopers said Austin Carrier, 20, was charged with gross negligent operation resulting in serious bodily injury to an 18-year-old woman.

Troopers said they arrested Carrier on Saturday, Aug. 3, in connection to a crash involving two Jeeps, a 2001 white Jeep Cherokee towing a 1994 green Jeep Cherokee with a chain. The crash victim was steering the green Jeep.

According to Troopers, both the victim and Carrier fled their vehicles when the white Jeep's drive shaft broke while on an incline. The woman tripped and fell as she was exiting the car and was run over when the Jeeps started rolling backward.

The woman was transported to Albany Medical Center for serious injuries. Carrier was processed and released with a criminal citation for Bennington Superior Court on Monday, Sept. 16, at 8:15 a.m.
