Fans say ‘Louie Hinchliffe deserved to reach final for his haircut’ as Team GB’s mulleted star falls in 100m semi-finals

LOUIE HINCHLIFFE confirmed he’s a sprinter with a dazzling future – with a haircut from the dodgy past!

Viewers reckon the hot British prospect “deserved” a place in the 100m Olympics final for his mullet alone – after he missed out in agonising style.

Hinchliffe, 22, was squeezed out despite coming third in his semi-final in 9.97seconds – before seeing American hero Noah Lyles take gold.

And fans impressed with his bold hairstyle were sad to see him parting.

Admittedly a few other viewers reckoned the Sheffield star should take a blade to his mop.

But the mullet has stormed back into fashion this year after decades out.

And one observer claimed Hinchliffe “has the best hair in the athletics team”.

Another demanded he “should please make it to the finals just because of his haircut”.

A third described the British 100m champion as a Games’ “style icon”.

Meanwhile, Hinchliffe told the BBC of his near miss: “It’s obviously not the result I wanted but I can’t be too hard on myself so, yeah, it’s OK.

“I’ll learn from my mistakes, so it is back to the drawing board and we’ll work on it hopefully and come back stronger next year.”

But having begun his semi-final slowly, he added: “I let the race get too far ahead of me.

“I was a bit out of it at the start. I didn’t set myself out too good. It’s not too bad, we’ll work on it.”

Hinchliffe also hailed the coaching of US sprint icon Carl Lewis.

He said: “He’s been great, giving me a lot of guidance. It’s been good to have him in my corner.”

All that positive-thinking surely means Hinchliffe can just shrug his shoulders – and his mane – at the mullet moaners.

Such doubters gave verdicts like “Exciting talent. Seriously needs to sort his hair out” and “Your sprinting is much better than your hair”.

Ignore them, Louie – they’ve just got a fringe view!
