Paul W. Downs (‘Hacks’): 2024 Emmys episode submission revealed
Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Paul W. Downs is entering the “Hacks” episode titled “Bulletproof” as his 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actor. “Bulletproof” streamed on May 30, 2024 and is the ninth and final episode of the Max show’s third season.
In this installment, Downs’ character Jimmy LuSaque Jr. has a meeting with his assistant, Kayla Schaefer (Megan Stalter), and her childhood friend, Bellette Donaldson (Kathryn Newton), who is trying to become a more serious actress. When Bellette makes fun of Kayla, Jimmy stands up for her, and Kayla takes issue with his “white knight” moment. Later, they have an argument on an airplane which results in Jimmy asking Kayla to be his co-manager.
This year marks the seventh career Emmy nomination for Downs; he previously won for writing “Hacks” in 2021. For this 2024 Emmys contest, he is competing against Lionel Boyce (“The Bear”), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear”), Paul Rudd (“Only Murders in the Building”), Tyler James Williams (“Abbott Elementary”) and Bowen Yang (“Saturday Night Live”).
“Hacks” received 16 total 2024 Emmy Award nominations, including Best Comedy Series.
