Subjecting child to corporal punishment to reform him can't be part of education: Chhattisgarh HC
The Chhattisgarh High Court has dismissed a petition of a woman teacher accused of abetting the suicide of a student. The court ruled that corporal punishment is not in line with a child's right to life guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution of India. The court dismissed the petition, which sought to quash the FIR and chargesheet in the abetment of suicide case. The court emphasized that being small does not make a child less human than a grown-up. The petitioner's lawyer argued that Jose merely admonished the student and took her ID card as per the usual disciplinary procedure.
