PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The first night of a planned street takeover mission by Portland police resulted in the arrest of a speeding motorcyclist who tried to flee from officers.

Just before 11 p.m. Friday, officials say a speeding motorcyclist eluded officers attempting to stop him near Northeast Airport Way and Northeast 148th Avenue.

When the motorcyclist ran on foot into a house in the 700 block of Northeast 160th Avenue, officers surrounded the house and tried to get him to surrender.

When he refused to come out of the home, a warrant granted officers permission to enter the house. The man then climbed on the roof to escape, but was unable to get away and surrendered to police almost 4 hours after the original traffic stop.

Authorities say the main is still in custody pending charges.

According to PPB, the takeover mission has thus far resulted in 50 traffic stops, 11 issued citations, 4 towed vehicles and 7 arrests.

PPB and partner agencies say the will continue to run this mission through Sunday night.
