Sunday shows preview: Harris veepstakes closing in; Russia frees Americans in historic swap

Vice President Harris’s decision on who will be her running mate looms, as she is expected to hit the campaign trail with the chosen candidate next week. As speculation about who she will pick heats up, it will likely be a focus of this week’s Sunday talk show circuit.

The vice president said recently that she had “not yet” made a selection about who to add to her ticket.

Harris also joined President Biden in welcoming home three American citizens freed from Russian prison in the largest prisoner swap since the Cold War earlier this week, and that news will also likely be a talking point.

United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain will appear on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” where he will likely discuss the union’s endorsement of Harris and his criticism of former President Trump.

Trump and his chosen running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), will join Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.” The GOP duo is likely to talk about the state of the 2024 race and how they will take on Harris, who was officially named the Democratic nominee Friday.

Trump also may talk about prisoner exchange that led to the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, reporter Alsu Kurmasheva and former Marine Paul Whelan. He called the news a “win" for Russian President Vladimir Putin and questioned the details.

White House deputy national security adviser Jon Finer is set to make an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” and CNN’s “State of the Union,” where he will also likely talk about the prisoner swap.

Almar Latour, the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, is also appearing on ABC’s “This Week.” Paul Beckett, the Journal’s assistant editor, is appearing on CBS. They are expected to discuss the release of their colleague Gershkovich. Beckett was instrumental in the reporter's release.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby is set to join “Fox News Sunday,” where he will likely discuss the prisoner swap and rising tensions in the Middle East.

Kirby also hit back at Vance, who credited Trump with the prisoner swap. He said there is “zero evidence” that the deal happened because Russia is eyeing Trump as the winner of the election.

Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Mt.), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will join NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” to discuss the prisoner swap.
