The US presidential race is now well underway as Republican nominee Donald Trump has agreed to hold a debate with the likely Democratic nominee, Kamala Harris.

Trump previously backed out of a planned television debate, prompting Harris to troll him and say, ‘What happened to anytime, any place?’

Harris added: ‘I have agreed to the previously agreed upon September 10 debate. He agreed to that previously.

‘Now, here he is backpedaling and I’m ready and I think the voters deserve to see the split screen that exists in this race on a debate stage and so I’m ready to go.’

Trump posed on his social media platform Truth Social that the debate will be held in Pennsylvania, and said: ‘If for any reason Kamala is unwilling or unable to debate on that date, I have agreed with Fox to do a major Town Hall on the same September 4 evening.’

He previously had said he wouldn’t debate Harris as she wasn’t the ‘official candidate’ for the Democrats after Joe Biden announced midway through the election that he would step down.

Now, Harris has secured enough votes from Democratic delegates ahead of this month’s Democratic National Convention to become her party’s presidential nominee, though voting is still ongoing.

Trump said the Fox News debate will be moderated by the ‘great’ Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, both of whom anchor for Fox News, though this remains unclear.

In recent weeks, a large number of celebrities and politicians have endorsed Harris as the Democratic candidate, including the Obamas.

President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid and has endorsed his Vice President against Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump.

Both Harris and Trump have been on the campaign trail, with Trump having been branded a ‘dictator’ after telling a crowd of Christians they won’t have to vote again after this US election because in four years ‘we’ll have it fixed so good’.

He said: ‘Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians.’

In Wisconsin at a rally, Harris said she knows ‘Donald Trump’s type’ thanks to her former career as a prosecutor, in the first rally of her presidential campaign.

In her speech, she outlined for the first time the approach she would take to tackling Trump – who remains the bookies’ favourite to clinch victory in November.
