Hidden legal TV upgrades for Roku and Fire Stick unlock 185,000 movies and shows plus thousands of channels instantly
YOUR Roku and Amazon Fire Stick have four totally free streaming services that you might have missed.
Combining them lets you unlock an enormous library of content that you don’t need to pay a penny for.
Don’t fork out huge sums of money for paid TV when there’s so much free choice[/caption]Here are the free streaming services you’ll definitely want to try.
Plex
First on our list is Plex – a big name in streaming, but one you might have missed.
That’s because Plex started life as a way to share personal content you’d saved to a screen of your choice.
This meant you could create a “personal Netflix” with your own saved media.
But in late 2019, Plex launched its own ad-supported streaming service.
This is now one of the most popular free TV apps out there, and with good reason.
Plex has a frankly gargantuan library of more than 1,100 channels (with over 800 available in the U.S.).
You can watch these live channels at any time, and they cover a range of genres including news, sports, cooking, and more.
And Plex also has a library of on-demand content that includes over 50,000 free movies and TV episodes.
Amazon Freevee
Another great – but easily missed – option is Amazon Freevee.
There are several reasons why you might have missed it.
For a start, it’s available inside Amazon Prime Video (normally a paid service), so you might not notice that there’s Freevee content in there too.
But it’s also available as a standalone download.
However, it was previously called IMDb Freedive and IMDb TV, and only changed to Freevee in April 2022.
Stream swapping – the easy way to cut your bills?
Here’s what Sean Keach, The Sun’s Head of Technology and Science, thinks…
It’s no secret that TV streaming apps are costing more and more.
Not only are prices shooting up, but we find ourselves asked to pay for an increasing number of apps and services.
And when you combine those TV bills with your music streaming, mobile and internet fees, and every other drain on your bank account, it all starts to get a bit much.
One of the best ways to cut your TV bills is to simply cancel all of your streaming subscriptions and only sign up to one per month.
Pick an app like Netflix, Disney+, or Apple TV+ and smash through all of the content you want to watch on that app.
Then the next month, swap to something else.
And once you’ve done them all, you can cycle back to the start again.
It’s an easy way to avoid forking out for a rolling library of streaming apps with more content than you could possibly watch.
Also don’t forget that paid-for streaming isn’t the only game in town.
There are loads of apps that don’t cost a penny to enjoy, and downloading a few will unlock thousands of live TV channels plus tens of thousands of movies and shows.
Try apps like Tubi, Amazon Freevee, The Roku Channel, Plex, and Pluto TV to get some ad-supported television without having to pay any monthly fees.
Additionally, Roku and Amazon are rivals when it comes to streaming gadgets.
So it might be surprising for Roku fans to find that there’s a Freevee app available on their devices.
In any case, Freevee is a great option for free streaming fans.
You’ll get over 400 live TV channels, as well as upwards of 15,000 shows and movies.
Amazon Freevee is available even on Roku devices – as well as smartphones[/caption]The Roku Channel
Just like Amazon’s Freevee is available on Roku devices, the popular Roku Channel can be installed on Amazon Fire Sticks.
So it’s easy to see why Amazon fans might have missed this great Roku option.
Of course, it’s available on Roku devices too.
The Roku Channel is a powerful streaming option with over 350 live channels.

Sling Freestream
Finally there’s Sling Freestream.
This is an easy-to-miss choice because it’s tucked inside the main Sling TV app.
Normally Sling TV is a service that you’d pay a monthly fee for.
You can download The Roku Channel directly from Amazon’s official app store[/caption]So you might never notice that Sling Freestream is built into the app for no cost.
You don’t need a regular Sling TV membership to watch Freestream – and there’s no requirement to even have an account.
Simply download the app and start watching Freestream content.
Sling Freestream offers more than 500 free live channels, plus 40,000 on-demand shows and movies.
