National Night Out meetups for crime prevention tips and family fun
National Night Out, the first Tuesday in August — Aug. 6 this year — brings law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and the public together to learn about local neighborhood crime, crime prevention tips, safety tips around home and creating neighborhood watch groups while having fun in a relaxed atmosphere.
Neighborhoods may put together their own block-party — often inviting their senior lead police officers — to discuss how to keep their areas safer from crime.
Some cities hold their event on other dates, often coinciding with an ongoing event like an evening farmers market or San Fernando’s event in early October when the weather is cooler.
Remember to turn on your front porch light as a symbol of public awareness for the annual event.
Here is a sampling of events in Los Angeles County by date, time and location.
