AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Ahead of its exhibition opening to the public Sunday, the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas Austin gave KXAN a preview of "Native America: In Translation" Friday.

The exhibition is meant to celebrate photography from Native American and first nation artists, according to the museum. The exhibit was curated by artist Wendy Red Star, according to The Blanton Museum of Art website.

The "Contemporary Indigenous artists" featured at the exhibit are listed below, as provided by the Blanton website:

  • Rebecca Belmore
  • Nalikutaar Jacqueline Cleveland
  • Martine Gutierrez
  • Koyoltzintli
  • Duane Linklater
  • Guadalupe Maravilla
  • Kimowan Metchewais
  • Alan Michelson
  • Marianne Nicolson

The exhibit has more than 60 works, and according to the museum, it focuses on identity, memory and tradition.

"We are hoping to have a program this fall in October where we're going to invite one of the artists to come speak. So, there will be plenty to do around the show and we hope that everyone can come out to see it," said Hannah Klemm, Blanton curator of modern and contemporary art.

The exhibitions will run through Jan. 5, 2025, according to the website.
