AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Cedar Park Police Department (CPPD) announced the arrest of a 25-year-old in connection with a suspected fentanyl poisoning death in May.

CPPD said Caleb Comer, of Liberty Hill, was charged with murder related to the death of 18-year-old Matthew Wright.

“Detectives discovered evidence indicating that Wright had been sold suspected fentanyl-laced pills by a local drug dealer. The investigation led to the identification of Caleb Comer as the source of the fentanyl,” CPPD said.

According to police, detectives confirmed Comer sold Wright the lethal pills hours before his death, and an autopsy revealed fatal levels of fentanyl in Wright’s system at the time of his death.

“Comer, who has previous narcotics-related charges and was out on bond for a 2023 Aggravated Robbery in Travis County,” CPPD said.

As of Friday, Comer remained booked in the Williamson County Jail on a $150,000 bond for the murder charge.

“Fentanyl is stealing far too many lives, and we are dedicated to pursuing drug dealers who are dealing lethal poison in our communities,” said CPPD Police Chief Mike Harmon. “This arrest is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our officers and partners. We will continue to fight against this epidemic and bring those responsible to justice.”
