Salem man accused of repeatedly shooting domestic partner
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Salem man was arrested and accused of shooting his partner multiple times Friday morning, authorities said.
George Brown Jr. was taken into custody and faces attempted murder and other charges after a 30-year-old woman was shot multiple times early Friday morning, Salem police said.
"Callers reported a woman with a gunshot wound as outside yelling for help," a Salem Police Department press release said. Officers responded to the calls at 2:15 a.m. near the 800 block of 25th Street Southeast. When they arrived, they found a woman who "was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds" and a man, later identified as Brown Jr..
Brown Jr. "surrendered to officers without incident." The woman was reported by police to be in stable condition after being rushed to a local hospital.
"Investigators determined that Brown Jr. and the victim, who are in a domestic relationship, were in a physical altercation that escalated when the shooting occurred," police said.
A "small-caliber handgun" was seized during the arrest.
Brown Jr. was lodged at the Marion County Jail and faces charges that include second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted rape, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, coercion and menacing.
