Journalist says many fans are ‘sceptical’ about their club signing Spurs player

Journalist Andersinho Marques has claimed that some AC Milan fans are not happy with the seemingly impending arrival of Emerson Royal, but he insisted that the Brazilian can get his career back on track with the Serie A side.

Even though the speculation linking Emerson with a move to Milan has going strong for several months, the right-back is yet to finalise the transfer.

In fact, he featured for Tottenham in their pre-season friendly against K-League All Stars in Seoul on Wednesday, which suggests that the Rossoneri still have work to do to complete the transfer.

However, Italian sources are optimistic that the deal will be agreed sooner rather than later, with the two sides thought to be nearing a full agreement on the transfer fee (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness).

AC Milan fans are not happy

Marques has now suggested that the Milan faithful are not too enthusiastic about the prospect of the right-back arriving at the San Siro.

He told MilanLive.it: “It’s true, the news of Emerson’s arrival wasn’t greeted with great enthusiasm. Many AC Milan fans are sceptical, especially considering the player’s mixed performances in the Premier League and the already established presence of other fullbacks at the club.”

However, Marques is confident that the 25-year-old can relaunch himself in the Serie A and urged him to seal the transfer to the Italian club.

He added: “Emerson started his career in Ponte Preta’s youth sector before moving to Atlético Mineiro. After attracting attention with his performances in Brazil, he was bought by Barcelona in 2019, although he spent much of it on loan at Betis.

“In 2021, he was sold to Tottenham, where, however, he failed to establish himself as a regular starter. He will try to relaunch himself in Serie A.

“He was considered a promising young man with considerable potential. However, his career did not meet expectations. At Tottenham, he alternated good performances with moments of decline. His offensive game, combined with some defensive shortcomings, has raised questions about his true potential.

“Now, the transfer to Milan represents an important opportunity to relaunch himself, but it remains to be seen how he will adapt to Italian football and the expectations of the Rossoneri club.”

There can be many reasons for a player not to fulfil his potential at one particular club, and that certainly does not mean he cannot thrive in another environment.

For example, the Juve fans were over the moon to get rid of both Bentancur and Kulusevski, but both have proven to be valuable additions for Spurs.

Emerson has shown glimpses of his talent at Tottenham and I fully expect him to succeed in Milan if the move does go through.
