Five top directors will reveal secrets behind their projects when they join Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&A event with 2024 Emmy Awards nominees. They will participate in two video discussions to premiere on Thursday, August 8, at 4:00 p.m. PT; 7:00 p.m. ET. We’ll have a one-on-one with our editor Ray Richmond and a roundtable chat with all of the group together.

Abbott Elementary

Synopsis: A workplace comedy centered around a group of dedicated teachers – and an oblivious principal – in a Philadelphia public school where, despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life.

Bio: Randall Einhorn now has his third and fourth Emmy nominations (producing and directing for “Abbott Elementary”). Other projects have included “Nurse Jackie,” “Fargo,” “The Muppets” and “The Kids Are All Right.”

Baby Reindeer

Synopsis: The story follows writer and performer Richard Gadd’s warped relationship with a female stalker and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deep, dark buried trauma.

Bio: Weronika Tofilska is a first-time Emmy nominee. Other projects have included “Love Life,” “The Irregulars,” “Hanna” and “His Dark Materials.”

Hacks

Synopsis: Explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old.

Bio: Lucia Aniello already has two Emmy wins for “Hacks” and now has three more nominations for producing, directing and writing. Other projects have included “Broad City,” “The Other Two” and “Nora from Queens.”

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Synopsis: Two strangers land jobs with a spy agency that offers them a life of espionage, wealth, and travel. The catch: new identities in an arranged marriage.

Bio: Hiro Murai has two Emmy nominations for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (producing and directing). He won previously for “The Bear” and has received nominations for “Atlanta” and “Station Eleven.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race

Synopsis: RuPaul searches for America’s next drag superstar on one of the trailblazing reality shows of this century.

Bio: Nick Murray has won two Emmys out of six career nominations for the competition program.
