Why IND vs SL match Did Not Conclude Over a Super Over After Tie? Explained

0

In two consecutive matches, India and Sri Lanka ended the game on a tie. First game was the 3rd T20I of the IND v SL 3-match T20I series, and now the second match is the first game of the IND v SL 3-match ODI series. The first tie i.e. the T20I tie, was decided clear with a super over. However, this time there was no tiebreaker for the match, as the game ended in a tie with the series staying at 0-0.

There was no super over in this match because unlike the T20Is, there is no compulsion for a result to be confirmed in the 50-over format.

For those who do not know, the playing conditions of ICC state that every T20I must have a super-over in case the score at the end is balanced. However, ICC has made no such rule for the ODIs. In ODIs, a chance for super over is mostly kept for only knockout matches of multi-nation events. Till date, only 3 ODIs have seen a super-over.
