'Kamala is bragging': Harris' nomination victory spurs angry Trump team response

Vice President Kamala Harris secured enough delegation votes to win the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention this month — a development that was met with anger from the MAGA faithful.

Trump's campaign responded by referring to Harris by her first name and characterizing her response as "bragging."

"Kamala — who didn't receive a single vote for president in 2020 OR 2024 — is bragging about her "people-powered campaign" again after being installed as the Democrat nominee," Team Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Trump's MAGA supporters responded with a variety of complaints and questionable claims that Harris had coopted the democratic process by accepting President Joe Biden's endorsement when he opted to step aside.

"Kamala Harris has still not a received a single vote to be the Democrat nominee," replied conservative influencer Paul A. Szypula. "So much for 'democracy.'"

Harris has described herself as the presumptive nominee in lieu of the convention. Trump's allies often refer to him as President Trump, despite his having lost the 2020 presidential election.

Corruption is also an accusation levied against Trump, convicted on felony charges earlier this year for falsifying business records to cover up hush money paid to an adult film star ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

The New York Times reported Friday that more than 2,350 delegates had voted for Harris during a virtual roll call expected to conclude on Monday.

"Harris secures the Democratic nomination without winning a single primary with the help of the DNC trashing over 16.6 million vote," replied Kristi Stahr, a data analyst for the conservative Foundation for Government Accountability organization.

Biden did secure the nomination on March 12 when he won the majority of delegates. But as calls mounted for Biden to step aside, the Brookings Institute released its analysis on delegates' obligation to honor primary victories at the upcoming convention.

They found a that includes a "quietly buried" Democrat National Convention rule that states, “Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them."
