‘House of the Dragon’ Reclaims the Throne on Streaming Top 10 | Charts

0

What’s old is new once again. In the “Game of Thrones” universe, dragons take their place on top again this week. Heading into its season finale August 4, “House of the Dragon” Season 2 from Max has been in the Top 10 ever since it premiered in June.

But another old-is-new franchise came in second: Disney’s fifth “Ghostbusters” comedy, released on Netflix July 22, took the number two spot this week. The movie stars Paul Rudd and Patton Oswald, joining forces with veterans Bill Murray and Dan Akyryoid to fight a spectral army in New York City.

Netflix dominated the Top 10, with seven of the Top 10 titles coming from the streaming service. An interesting addition to the list this week was “Hillbilly Elegy,” which stars Glenn Close and Amy Adams and came out in 2020. Since the author of the memoir the film is based off of J.D. Vance, the vice president pick on the Republican ticket, it has gotten fresh interest from viewers.

The only shows not from Netflix came from Max (“House of Dragons”), AppleTV, and one video-on-demand title. David E. Kelly’s legal thriller series “Presumed Innocent” on Apple TV+ came in fifth and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” on VOD came in ninth.

Biden’s presidential address, which aired across several networks, took the No. 1 spot on linear TV this week. NBC’s airing of the Olympics opening ceremony nabbed the second spot and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” took the third. ABC’s “Wheel of Fortune” took the No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, and No. 8 places, and ABC’s “Bachelorette” took No. 9. NBC’s “America Ninja Warrior” took No. 7, and the retrospective of Bob Newhart’s “A Legacy of Laughter” from CBS rounded out the Top 10.

The Wrap Report provides an exclusive first look at the most watched movies and TV series from the past week across streaming and linear television. It is sourced from viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households, balanced to the U.S. Census.
