And Duke didn’t make it this time

According to ESPN’s Paul Biancardi, AJ Dybantsa has cut his list to seven and you’ll notice a prominent absence:

  • Alabama
  • Auburn
  • Baylor
  • BYU
  • Kansas
  • Kansas State
  • North Carolina

Obviously Duke didn’t make the cut. That seems surprising because Jon Scheyer has been such a lights out recruiter since taking over but no one gets every player they’re after. As Scheyer himself told one recruit there are a lot of good players out there. And as everyone knows, one player does not a team make.

Actually there are a couple of other schools that surprisingly aren’t on the list, notably UConn and Arkansas.

You’d think that Danny Hurley would be locking down New England but this is the second year in a row that the best player in the country has come from up there and Hurley has whiffed on both, though he was much closer on Cooper Flagg than he was on Dybantsa.

And after years of picking off elite prospects in Lexington, will John Calipari, now at Arkansas, be able to keep recruiting at an elite level?

Anyway, best of luck to Dybantsa and we look forward to seeing him play in college.
