Emmys: Which ‘Star Wars’ series has racked up the most nominations (and wins)?

0

The latest “Star Wars” show, “The Acolyte” hasn’t hit the heights reception-wise that Disney and creator Leslye Headland hoped with a meager audience score of 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. It should be noted, however, that the show has an 80% critic score and was subjugated to review-bombing by a certain section of the “Star Wars” fandom.

Still, “The Acolyte” hasn’t set this galaxy ablaze. But that doesn’t mean the Disney+ slew of “Star Wars” shows is doomed. In general, the shows have been well-received, with some picking up a ton of awards attention.

The first “Star Wars” show is certainly the biggest. “The Mandalorian” follows Pedro Pascal as the titular Mando as he and Grogu (AKA Baby Yoda) journey the galaxy searching for a place for the young force-sensitive being. The next “Star Wars” show was “The Book of Boba Fett,” which saw Temuera Morrison‘s titular bounty hunter rise from the Sarlaac grave and take over Tatooine while battling with crime syndicates. “Obi-Wan Kenobi” returned Ewan McGregor to his role as the iconic Obi-Wan, telling the tale of the aging Jedi’s journey in between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.”

Next up is “Andor,” one of the best-received shows in this lineup. This is a spinoff of the spinoff film “Rogue One,” which explains how the Rebels acquired the Death Star plans right before the start of “A New Hope.” “Andor” tells the tale of how Rebel leader Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) became the figure he was in “Rogue One,” as he tentatively joins the rebel alliance. Then there was “Ahsoka,” which followed Rosario Dawson as the ex-Jedi Ahsoka as she became embroiled in a fight between the New Republic and the remnants of the Galactic Empire. That brings us to “The Acolyte,” which is set in an entirely different period of the “Star Wars” universe — the High Republic, decades before “The Phantom Menace.” The story follows Lee Jung-jae‘s Jedi master investigating a series of crimes that suggest the rise of an ancient force.

Add to a bunch of well-received animated shows including “The Clone Wars,” “Rebels,” “Visions,” and “The Bad Batch” and you’ve got a crackling catalog of stories from a galaxy far, far away. Some of these shows have far fared better than others, of course, but “Star Wars” shows have often done well at the Emmys. Below, we’ve ranked these shows in order of Emmy wins and nominations received by these shows. Shows without Emmy nominations have been left out.

So, there you have it.

Only three “Star Wars” shows have won Emmys: “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” and “Star Wars: Visions.” “The Mandalorian” is also one of three shows to be nominated in a best series category. “The Mandalorian” and “Andor” picked up Best Drama Series bids while “Obi-Wan Kenobi” snagged a Best Limited Series nomination. “The Mandalorian” is also the only “Star Wars” show to earn nominations for its actors: Taika Waititi, Giancarlo Esposito, Timothy Olyphant, and Carl Weathers all picked up bids for their performances.

“The Mandalorian” is clearly the overwhelming favorite for Emmy voters here but “Andor” got off to a good start for its debut season with eight nominations including a Best Drama Series citation. That show will be back for a second season. Perhaps it will fare even better then.
