But one dive in particular left fans astonished.

While attempting a reverse pike move, the pair were perfectly in sync – so much so that many viewers thought they were looking at just one person.

One viewer took to social media to write: “Genuinely needed to watch this twice to realise there were two divers!

“No wonder that China have won every Olympic gold since the synchronised 10m platform was introduced in 2000.”

Another said: “That’s absolutely nuts… Beautiful!”

A third wrote: “I didn’t realise it until I saw it in slow motion, and my jaw dropped.”

While a fourth commented: “That was actually incredible!!”

Despite their medal win, Quan and Chen were not satisfied with the display.

Quan told reporters: “I’m not happy about our performance. All the dives were mediocre.”

And Chen added: “Before the event I felt a bit nervous and some pressure. I didn’t manage these emotions well.

“My performance was a bit unstable and I didn’t handle some of the details in the dives well.

“It was the Olympics after all. Who wouldn’t feel the pressure?”

China won the women’s synchronised 10m platform final with a huge score of 359.10 – over 43 points more than second-placed Korea.

Team GB stars Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson claimed bronze on the day.
