London’s Althoff St. James’s Hotel & Club joins The Leading Hotels Of The World
NEW YORK – The Althoff St. James’s Hotel & Club in London joins the exclusive portfolio of The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) as of August 1, 2024. The LHW collection already features Althoff’s Seehotel
“The Leading Hotels of the World is a renowned collection of incomparable hotels and resorts that regularly sets standards in the industry,” says Frank Marrenbach, CEO of Althoff Hotels, “and we are very proud that, after Villa Belrose last spring, our boutique hotel in London has now also been included in this elite circle of the world’s top addresses. Congratulations to the General Manager Stefano Squecco and his entire team! Thanks to their continuous commitment, first-class service and truly exceptional hospitality, this achievement is more than deserved.”
Victorian ambience and extravagant style
The Althoff St. James’s Hotel & Club is an insider’s secret in chic Mayfair, remarkably close to both St. James’s and Buckingham Palaces. The St. James’s Club can look back on a long and fascinating history that began in 1857. A host of celebrities have been its guests – from Winston Churchill and Henry James, to Sir Elton John, Liza Minnelli, and the British royals. As a luxurious boutique hotel, the Victorian-era red-brick mansion, restyled by Berlin designer Anne Maria Jagdfeld, is a much sought-after address today, especially for prominent filmmakers.
The hotel has 60 opulent rooms and suites sporting luxurious design elements such as Murano glass lamps and handmade silk wallpaper. The suites are in a class of their own; the penthouse suite covers an entire floor of the townhouse, with a private 550-square-foot roof garden – an absolute rarity in London. The culinary direction of the Althoff St. James’s is in the hands of noted chef William Drabble, who has been awarded a Michelin star twenty-four times. In the gourmet restaurant Francatelli, he and his team serve timeless recipes, some of which were created by Queen Victoria’s head chef Charles Elmé Francatelli. The finest regional ingredients meet a rich culinary heritage and, combined with modern vibes, ensure delicious flights of fancy in the heart of Mayfair.
