Watch out for Juno Temple: She could win ‘Fargo’ its first acting Emmy

Based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users as of this writing, the race for Best Movie/Limited Actress is between Oscar winners Jodie Foster (“True Detective: Night Country”) and Brie Larson (“Lessons in Chemistry”), but lurking just behind them is a performer we may be underestimating: Juno Temple (“Fargo”). If she wins, she’d actually be the first performer from the FX anthology series to take home an award.

That’s right, “Fargo” has earned many acting nominations over the course of its five seasons, but none of those actors have won. The show claimed three awards in 2014: Best Limited Series, plus prizes for its directing and casting. Then in 2016 it won awards for sound editing and cinematography. And in 2017 it was awarded for its music composition. That brings its all-time total to six, a modest sum compared to its abundance of nominations.

This year “Fargo” has a total of 15 nominations including three bids for its performances: Best Movie/Limited Actor for Jon Hamm and Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actor for Lamorne Morris, in addition to Temple’s lead actress nom. While Foster and Larson have movie star cachet, they don’t have as strong a track record at the Emmys as Temple, who is coming off three straight Best Comedy Supporting Actress bids for “Ted Lasso” (2021-2023).

Temple didn’t win for that series, but she has momentum now in her fourth consecutive season at these awards. And her “Fargo” role is markedly different from her “Ted Lasso” performance, showing off her range across projects. Right now she’s predicted to upset by one Gold Derby Editor, two of our Top 24 Users and one of our All-Star Top 24. So don’t be too surprised if she shows up the rest of the elite field.
