I made up a name for our baby boy when we couldn’t decide – people say it reminds them of a cartoon character
COMING up with a baby name can be difficult, especially if you want it to be one-of-a-kind.
One expectant mother shared the name she created for her son but people weren’t too impressed.
An expectant mother shared the name she created for her son by combining two options[/caption] Mumsnet users revealed the cartoon character that came to mind when they heard the name[/caption]In a post on Mumsnet, the user revealed the name she landed on after months of debate.
She explained that she had been going back and forth between a few options when she accidentally created her a name.
According to the soon-to-be mum, she and her partner were “stuck for a boys name we both like.”
She explained that she “loves” the names “Raffy and Ziggy” but wasn’t convinced.
The name Raffy is of Arabic origin and translated to “exalted,” meaning “God has healed.”
Ziggy is the shortened version of the Hebrew name Zachary, which means “God has remembered.”
Unable to decide, the poster combined the two options to come up with Zaffy.
“Is Zaffy a name, have I just made that up?” she asked her fellow Mumsnet users.
She revealed that she “quite likes” the name and was strongly considering it for her son.
Other Mumsnet users shared their thoughts on the name in the comments section.
“It sounds feminine to me – as a soundalike to Saffy [short for] Saffron or Sephie [short for] Josephine or Persephone,” wrote one reader.
“No it’s a not a name but that doesn’t seem to stop some people from naming their kids all sorts of made up wonders,” pointed out another person.
“Sorry but it would be an awful name to have as an adult. I have a very unusual name and this is worse,” commented a third user.
Others shared the first thing the name brought to mind when they hear it.
“Daffy Duck was my first thought, please rethink. What about Jeffrey, nearest I can think of that’s actually a name,” suggested one person.

On the other hand, some commenters supported the choice of name.
“I used to know a Zafiros, who was of Greek origin. I guess that could be shortened to Zaffy,” shared one Mumsnet user.
“I know one, a boy, spelled with an ‘I’ at the end,” wrote another reader.
“I like it. I would spell it Zafi. Would be great if you could find something it was [short] for though,” suggested one person.
