New report reveals Kamala Harris came within feet of a pipe bomb on Jan. 6
Ahead of the attack on the U.S. Capitol, two pipe bombs were found on Capitol Hill: one at the Democratic Party headquarters and one at the Republican Party headquarters. A new Homeland Security report is revealing that the DNC bomb came very close to the incoming vice president.
ABC News detailed the DHS report on Thursday that Kamala Harris was "within feet" of a "viable" bomb.
"The pipe bomb had been placed near the building the night before, but ... [a]dvance security sweeps by the Secret Service at the DNC building did not include the outside area where a pipe bomb had been placed," says the report from inspector general Joseph Cuffari. The report was submitted to Congress.
A Secret Service canine team swept the building and told investigators that they were "surprised" more assets weren't provided to help.

Secret Service policies at the time required fewer agents for protectees who were elected but not sworn in, ABC News said.
In recent months, Donald Trump's team has complained that they don't always have as many agents as they would like. Republicans complained about it to the new acting director of the Secret Service, but he testified that on the day of Trump's assassination attempt, his team was given the requested number of assets.
"[Harris], traveling in an armored vehicle with her motorcade, entered the DNC building via a ramp within 20 feet of the pipe bomb," the report explained.
Harris already arrived at the DNC and had been there for over an hour when the bomb was found. The Secret Service evacuated her in 10 minutes.
The "heavily redacted" report explained that the Secret Service has since changed policies about newly elected protectees.
It has been nearly four years since the bombs, and there are scores of photos and videos of the pipe bomber walking through the streets, but the FBI has been unable to capture him or her. There is a $500,000 reward for information about the bomber that leads to an arrest.
