Three officers injured, suspect dead on Columbus west side
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – At least three Columbus SWAT officers are injured and a suspect is dead after a shooting on the west side of the city Thursday night.
Columbus police Sgt. Joe Albert said the incident started at approximately 3:30 p.m. as a SWAT situation on the 4000 block of Cherry Creek Parkway.
According to the Fraternal Order of Police President Lt. Brian Steel, the three officers were taken to the hospital all in a stable condition. Albert said none of the officers were shot, saying multiple officers were injured and multiple officers were stabbed. He added the suspect was dead, with at least one officer firing their gun.
Steel said the officers have been with the department for at least 20 years.
Details on what led to the confrontation have not been released.
Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther released the following statement:
"Tonight, my prayers are with the Columbus Division of Police officers injured in the line of duty, as well as their families. I am grateful for their bravery in the face of danger and their commitment to protecting our residents. Violence, particularly toward our officers, is never acceptable. I wish them a full and speedy recovery."
