Elephant Rumblings: A’s set to begin fresh home stand
MLB news roundup
Welcome to August AN! How time flies.
The A’s have wrapped up what is likely their final Bay Bridge Series at the San Francisco Giants. They still have two more against the Giants at home in a couple of weeks at the Coliseum in what will be the true final series between the Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants. If you don’t have a ticket to the last game at the Coliseum, this might be your next best bet for a packed house.
Elsewhere, A’s fans continue to digest the trades that the front office made or didn’t make. Ultimately it’ll take years to judge the entirety of the trade but the early word has generally been positive. Now we get to take a look at the new guys on the team and start thinking about where they fit in long-term.
There were some surprising lack of trades, namely relievers Scott Alexander and TJ McFarland, but if no one wants to give up anything for them then that’s their loss.
Down on the farm young outfielder Colby Thomas hit two jacks a couple of nights ago, pushing his total with the Aviators to 7 in just 32 games. He’s slashing .310/.387/.587 since his promotion to Triple-A and is looking like a lock to join the team when rosters expand. There’s more news and information about other prospects down on the farm at all levels in the above link.
And finally, we got to hear from the newest Athletic Will Klein yesterday as he spoke about his trade to the Athletics and joining a big-league bullpen again. The righty could be the latest hidden gem that the A’s uncover. Shouldn’t be too much longer before we see him take the mound rocking the Green & Gold.
That’s about all we got for you good folks out there today. Athletics baseball gets back at it tomorrow night at the Coliseum against the Los Angeles Dodgers for a 3-game set, followed by three against the Chicago White Sox, the only team in the American League with a worse record than the A’s. Three against one of the toughest NL teams followed by three against the worst AL team. Should be an interesting home stand!
