A complete timeline of Cardi B and Offset's relationship
- Musicians Cardi B and Offset met in 2017 and married that same year.
- Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset in September 2020 but the two got back together.
- In December, Cardi described herself as "single." She filed for divorce again in late July 2024.
Cardi B and Offset set the internet ablaze when they were spotted sitting together at the 2017 Super Bowl.
Later, Offset would reveal in a Rolling Stone article that he had his publicist set the two up on a group hang in New York ahead of the big game, but that the Super Bowl was their first official date — a date Offset called "a power move."
Cardi B and Offset dropped the video for their first musical collaboration, "Lick."
Interestingly, they recorded and released the song a month before they'd ever met (it's likely they recorded the track without ever meeting).
Cardi B finally opened up about her reported beau in an interview with Fader, though she played coy, only referring to him as "the boy," and talking mostly about their musical collaboration.
"It's been a blessing, me meeting him and meeting his friends. I see how hard they work. And that motivated me to work even harder," Cardi B told Fader.
Speaking to Charlamagne at the MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show, Cardi B dropped a very loud hint to her boyfriend that she'd like to get engaged.
"I'm a woman. Every woman, I think, wants to get married and wants to have children. It's never too early to get married now. You know, if you want to propose to me, you can," she said.
Cardi B posted a selfie to Instagram and captioned it: "Single." She quickly deleted the post.
The very next day she confirmed that she and Offset were still together and wrote: "I really loveeeee my man … he was gifted to me from Jesus."
Offset proposed to Cardi B onstage at Power 99's Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia with a 20-carat diamond ring that he said cost "half a million."
Offset later told Rolling Stone that he proposed to her because "she is real solid, came from where I came from, did what I did. She's herself, man. I seen her develop from the trenches all the way up, and I like how she did it. I respect her grind as a woman."
Cardi B later wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post: "Jesus Christ I'm so emotional, [Offset] I loveee you so much. Thank you for seeing the potential in me since you met me. For giving me advice molding me and loving me. Your such a amazing man to me your family, friends, kids and you are extremely talented. I can't wait to spend FOREVAAAA with you. Let's make a lot shmoney and love together."
Months later, Cardi B would tell Jimmy Fallon during an appearance on "The Tonight Show" that she was surprised by the proposal and more specifically, the size of the ring.
"I mean, he always used to tell me, 'I'm going to marry you. I'm going to marry you.' And it's just like, 'Mmm. It's the right thing to do,'" she told Fallon. "But I knew he was going to give me a very expensive gift because he wasn't there for my birthday, but I thought he was going to give me a watch or something. He just went out of his way, okurrrrr!"
Cardi B released "Bartier Cardi," which features references to Offset all over the song. After some criticism, she went on social media to defend her relationship.
"If I wanna put my man name on all my songs so fucking what!! … I'm his biggest fan," she said.
In September 2017, someone claimed to have hacked Offset's iCloud account and leaked a video that was said to show Offset cheating on Cardi B with an unknown woman.
Then, a second video with another woman leaked in January 2018.
Cardi B immediately went on Instagram Live and defended her relationship and said, seemingly confirming the veracity of the video, "You live and you learn." A few days later, she told fans onstage at a concert: "You pull that shit again, you gonna lose your wife."
Cardi B's fans continued to pester her about her relationship into the new year.
"Why do I have to explain myself?" she wrote in a series of now-deleted posts on X (formerly known as Twitter). "I don't ask ya why you still with that man that lives with his mom, that don't pay your bills … Since when you guys had perfect relationship?"
Seemingly implying that he and Cardi B had worked through their issues, Offset made it official by getting her name inked on his neck.
A week later, Offset told Rolling Stone that he and Cardi B were indeed together but that there were no immediate plans for a wedding.
"We chilling. We don't got time for that right now," he told the magazine.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Cardi B seemingly addressed Offset's reported infidelity.
"It's like everybody is coming down my neck like, 'Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.' I don't have low self-esteem … I know I look good. I know I'm rich, I know I'm talented. I know I could get any man I want — any basketball player, football player," she told Cosmopolitan.
"But I want to work out my shit with my man, and I don't got to explain why. I'm not your property. This is my life ... I'm going to take my time, and I'm going to decide on my decision … It's not right, what he fucking did — but people don't know what I did, 'cause I ain't no angel," she continued.
The rapper dropped the song "Be Careful" off her "Invasion Of Privacy" album and fans thought some of the lyrics were referring directly to Offset about his infidelity.
"Be careful with me, do you know what you're doing?" she sings. "Whose feelings that you're hurting and bruising? You gonna gain the whole world, but is it worth the girl that you're losing? … Yeah, it's not a threat, it's a warning."
Meanwhile, Cardi B denied rumors that she was pregnant and told a fan on Instagram that she's just "fat."
After several months of reports, Cardi B finally confirmed her pregnancy during her debut performance on "Saturday Night Live."
Immediately after her performance, Offset wrote on X, "Cardi and I look forward to our next chapter together."
The couple appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone together, where they addressed their growing family (Offset has three other children — two sons, Jordan and Kody, and a daughter, Kalea).
"People want to make fun of me, saying I'm the fourth baby mom, [but] I know I'm not having a baby with a shitty ass man," Cardi B said.
"We really love each other," Offset told the publication. "She's real. I wanted real. I also wanted successful."
At the 2018 BET Awards, Offset casually referred to Cardi B as his "wife."
Many brushed it off as a term of endearment, especially since Offset called her his wife in their recent Rolling Stone interview.
However, Cardi B (and TMZ) eventually confirmed that they had indeed wed back on September 20, 2017 — a month before they got engaged.
"One morning in September we woke up and decided to get married," she posted on X in June.
They got married in their bedroom in Atlanta and their only witness was Cardi B's cousin.
As for why Offset publicly got down on one knee a month after they were legally wed, Cardi B explained that she always wanted to experience "that special moment … when he got down on one knee."
Cardi B gave birth to a baby girl named Kulture Kiari Cephus and announced it on Instagram with a lavish nude photo shoot.
Two months after welcoming their first child together, Cardi B announced that she and Offset also adopted a dog.
"We got another one," Cardi B captioned a photo of her husband with the cute puppy.
Cardi B announced in an Instagram video posted on December 4, 2018, that she and her husband broke up after getting secretly married in September 2017.
"We've got a lot of love for each other, but things just haven't been working out between us for a long time. And it's nobody's fault," she said. "It's just, like, I guess we grew out of love. But we're not together anymore."
In the video, Cardi B also said they are looking into getting a divorce, but it "might take time."
Cardi B and Offset were photographed together at a 2019 Super Bowl party in February and a few days later, they hit the Grammys red carpet together.
While walking the carpet, they even touched tongues while posing for photographers.
On July 21, Offset posted a FaceTime screenshot on Instagram showing Cardi B revealing the words "Offset" printed on the back of her thigh.
He captioned it, "CANT WAIT TO GET HOME," with three tongue emojis.
Reflecting on the cheating scandal that happened a year ago, Cardi B told Vogue that she and Offset worked through everything together.
"I believe in forgiveness. I prayed on it. Me and my husband, we prayed on it. We had priests come to us. And we just came to an understanding like, bro, it's really us against the world," she told Vogue.
The rapper went on to say that "monogamy is the only way" and that the two of them have now "come to a clear understanding."
When Offset turned 28 years old, to celebrate, Cardi B gave him half a million.
"So, you know everyone's saying you got every car, you got every jewelry, you got everything. You got every shoe. What else can I give someone that got everything?" Cardi B said in an Instagram video before telling Offset to look in the fridge behind him.
The fridge was filled with stacks of cash, which she said amounted to $500,000. Offset then told her, "You don't have to give me this money."
"I know I don't have to give you the money, but I don't know what to give you, so I suppose I gotta give you something," she added, telling him he can use it to buy a car, more clothes, jewelry, or whatever he wants.
The couple chose to skip the red carpet but appeared together at the awards show and at a pre-Grammys event days earlier.
The two were nominated for best rap performance for their collaboration "Clout," though they did not win.
Cardi B shared a photo of her, Offset, and Kulture on Instagram with the caption, "Happy Mother's Day."
Offset also shared a tribute to his wife on Instagram, writing, "Happy Mother's Day since I met you it's been love thank you for my beautiful daughter she smart with attitude like you and talented like us both my kids and you help me become a better guy all around
Thank You WIFE !!!!"
The next day, Cardi B shared a photo of herself with her gifts, which included dozens of roses and two Birkin bags.
After almost three years of marriage, Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset on September 15.
According to court documents obtained by E! Online, the marriage was called "irretrievably broken." Per the publication, in the documents, Cardi B requested child support for their 2-year-old daughter, Kulture.
According to court papers obtained by TMZ, Cardi B also reportedly sought legal custody and primary physical custody of Kulture.
In an Instagram Live video, acquired by TMZ, Cardi B shared that she and Offset were back together.
"One day I'm happy, the next day I want to beat him the fuck up," she said in the video. "It's really hard not to talk to your best friend, and it's really hard to have no dick."
She also responded to accusations that she got back together with Offset because he gifted her a Rolls Royce for her 28th birthday.
"I do like material things," she said. "What do y'all want me to do?"
In November, the rapper filed to dismiss her divorce petition, according to court documents obtained by Insider.
The dismissal was filed "without prejudice," meaning Cardi B can refile for divorce from Offset in the future.
The rapper announced her pregnancy during her 2021 BET Awards performance with Migos.
After the performance, she shared an announcement and photo from her pregnancy on X.
Cardi announced the birth through Instagram, posting a photo of the couple sitting under a Louis Vuitton blanket and cradling their newborn.
"9/4/21," she captioned the post, adding emojis of a dinosaur, a blue heart, and a bear.
The couple said in a statement: "We are so overjoyed to finally meet our son. He is already loved so much by family and friends and we can't wait to introduce him to his other siblings."
The couple revealed via X that they had named their baby boy Wave Set Cephus.
Cardi revealed that the unique name was suggested by Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus. "When Set suggested Wave, I was sold! THAT HAD TO BE HIS NAME," she tweeted.
The two rappers appeared on the cover of Essence with their entire blended family, including Wave, their 3-year-old daughter Kulture, and Offset's children from previous relationships, Kalea and Kody, both 7, and Jordan, 12.
"It's a blessing to be able to have them all together, and to have a wife who's open and treats them as if they're her kids," Offset told the magazine. "It could be an issue, but I don't have to go through that, and that's beautiful."
Takeoff, Offset's former Migos band member, was shot and killed on November 1 in Houston. He was 28.
Police said the shooting stemmed from an argument over a "lucrative dice game" in which the rapper was not involved and that he was an "innocent bystander."
Both Cardi B and Offset attended a memorial service for Takeoff hosted in Atlanta on November 11.
Offset gave a speech at the service in which he credited Takeoff with having "changed the culture of music forever."
"You did that Take, you changed that flow, that flow came from Take, the originator," he said. "The originator of that flow, he changed the music."
During an appearance on the premiere episode of "The Jason Lee Show," Cardi said Offset "changed" for her after she filed for divorce in 2020.
"I'm gonna let him talk about this because the main thing that was really bothering me, I'mma let him say it," the "Bodak Yellow" rapper said. "I want him to say it, because I feel like that's really part of his story."
"The main thing that I wanted him to stop and everything, he stopped and he changed, and it showed me that he wanted to change for me," she added.
The Cardi B & Offset Meal cost just over $20 and included both celebrities' favorite McDonald's menu items, like a cheeseburger and a quarter-pounder.
Business Insider's Erin McDowell reviewed the meal and was less than impressed.
"Compared to previous meal collabs, the Cardi B and Offset meal seemed underwhelming to me," she wrote. "I was hoping for something a little more creative."
The couple packed on the PDA on the red carpet. Cardi wore a Robert Wun dress with Azature fine jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes while Offset wore a Dior suit.
In a since-deleted Instagram story, Offset said Cardi had "fucked" another man.
Shortly after Offset's accusation, Cardi hosted a Spaces conversation on X addressing her husband's comments.
After singing part of the first verse of Keyshia Cole's "I Should Have Cheated," the "Bodak Yellow" rapper said: "You can't accuse me of all the things you know that you are guilty of."
Cardi told listeners not to "pay attention" to Offset because he is "spiraling and thinking shit."
"Please boy, stop acting stupid. Stop acting stupid," she said. "Don't play with me. What the fuck. Stop playing. That's all I'm gonna motherfucking say."
After singing a bit more, Cardi concluded: "Like, you can't be serious. Don't play, motherfucker. Got me looking fucking crazy and shit for no reason."
Cardi told fans about her relationship status in an Instagram live broadcast, saying: "I've been single for a minute now, but I've been afraid to like... Not afraid, I just don't know how to tell the world."
Cardi didn't reveal any specific details about the reason behind the split in the video but said that she had wanted to make the news public for some time.
"But I feel like today has been like a sign. Last time I got on live I wanted to tell you guys but I didn't know how to tell you so I changed my mind," she said. "But it has been like this for a minute now, and I just took it as a sign."
Cardi then said that she's excited about the future.
"So I want to start 2024 like fresh, open. I don't know. I'm curious for a new life, or a new beginning and, yeah, I'm excited," she added.
Representatives Cardi and Offset did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The former couple were spotted together in Miami on New Year's Eve, and fans assumed they had patched things up when footage of the pair surfaced online.
Cardi said in a Spaces livestream on X that they slept together.
"I want to be clear to you guys because you guys are making your assumptions and I just wanted you to hear it from the horse's mouth," she said. "Was I clubbing with my baby father yesterday? Yes. Did I got dicked down yesterday? Absolutely, baby."
Cardi said that she and Offset partied together after realizing they were in the same club and that they chose to enjoy the night rather than making the situation difficult.
"We was both in the same club and it was just really awkward. Like, I'm in my section, he's in his section. So it's like, 'Man, just fucking come over here. Let's just chill. We're having a good time,'" she recalled.
The rapper confirmed that she isn't back with Offset, however.
"I feel at the point of where we at in our relationship, we've been together for seven years, we've been married for seven years, I don't consider that we're back together," she said.
"The answer to getting back together is not a good night at the club and fucking the night long," she added. "We need to work on our shit we need to work on our communication. There's things that he needs to work on. There's things that I need to work on."
Page Six was the first to report that Cardi B had filed for divorce.
"They've grown apart. That's what drove her to this decision more than anything else," a source said. "This is something she wants to do."
"It's not based on cheating rumors, but rather has been a long time coming," a rep for Cardi B told People.
Shortly after, Cardi B revealed on Instagram that she was pregnant with her third child.
"With every ending comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life and most of all renewed my power!" Cardi captioned two photos of herself wearing a red dress and cradling her stomach.
The rapper continued, "Reminded me that I can have it all! You've reminded me that I never have to choose between life, love, and my passion! I love you so much and can not wait for you to witness what you helped me accomplish, what you pushed me to do!"
Cardi B didn't indicate if Offset was the father of the baby, but she referenced the pair's two children, daughter Kulture and son Wave.
"It's so much easier taking life's twists, turns and test laying down, but you, your brother and your sister have shown me why it's worth it to push through!" she wrote.
