Motorcyclist dies after Sunday morning crash on MoPac

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A motorcyclist died last weekend after a crash on MoPac in southwest Austin.

The Austin Police Department said the crash happened around 3:38 a.m. on July 28 in the 8600 block of North MoPac Expressway northbound.

The motorcyclist crashed into the back of an SUV and fell into the roadway, then was hit by another, unknown vehicle, according to APD.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. APD did not identify the motorcyclist.

APD said the driver of the SUV remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The unknown vehicle did not stop and left the scene.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 45th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 48 fatalities for the year.
