Former Mayor of DeRidder arrested, charged with rape of a juvenile
DERIDDER, La. (KLFY) -- The former Mayor of DeRidder has been arrested in connection with sex crimes involving children, authorities said.
Misty Roberts, 42, is charged with third degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, according to State Police.
The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office asked the Louisiana State Police Special Victim’s Unit July 26 to investigate a complaint against Roberts for allegations of sexual relations with a juvenile.
Officials said LSP SVU conducted interviews with two juveniles, one of whom was the victim, who confirmed Roberts had sexual intercourse with one juvenile while serving as mayor. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Roberts from the Beauregard Parish 36th Judicial District Court.
Roberts, who resigned as mayor July 27, turned herself in to Investigators Thursday without incident, authorities said. This case remains under investigation.
