Pakistan deports British Journalist Charles Glass, who sought to visit Imran Khan
On Wednesday, Pakistan deported British journalist Charles Glass after he attempted to visit former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated. Glass had attempted to see Khan in Adiala Prison with Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan.
Pakistani police raided the residence of the British-American journalist in Islamabad and informed him that his visa had been cancelled and that he needed to leave Pakistan within a few hours.
The police escorted him from the residence of a Pakistani journalist to his hotel and then to the airport, from where he was deported to the United Arab Emirates.
The newspaper Dawn reported that Charles Glass had attempted to visit Imran Khan at Adiala Prison a few days ago with Aleema Khan but was denied access.
Additionally, Geo News reported that Glass had also requested permission from Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, to meet with Khan, but his request was denied.
Charles Glass had previously called for the release of Imran Khan and Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks whistleblower, on World Press Freedom Day (May 3), stating that they were imprisoned due to defying the United States.
Meanwhile, the expulsion of Charles Glass underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding Imran Khan’s imprisonment and highlights the challenges faced by journalists in navigating sensitive political issues in Pakistan.
