0

Lung cancer, the main cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, is the second most frequent form of cancer among men in Cyprus and the fifth among women.

Marking August 1, world lung cancer awareness day, the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (Pasykaf) presents data for 2021, when 339 cases of lung cancer in men and 105 in women were recorded.

Pasykaf urges smokers to quit the habit and call 1431, the state health services helpline, as eight in ten cases are related to smoking.

Lung cancer warning signs are coughing, shortness of breath, respiratory infections, hemoptysis, hoarseness and facial swelling.

Cyprus is among the 182 countries to so far ratify the WHO framework convention on tobacco control, aimed at addressing the global tobacco epidemic.
