Deputies: Delmar man lied about being retired officer
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Delmar man was arrested and is accused of lying about being a former Ravena police officer during a traffic stop while displaying an official police badge. Richard Filipello, 60, was charged with first-degree criminal impersonation.
On Wednesday, around 10:28 a.m., deputies from the Albany County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation stemming from a traffic stop in Albany on July 24. According to authorities, during the stop, the driver, identified as Filipello, told deputies he was a former Ravena police officer and displayed an official police badge.
Deputies say an investigation found Filipello falsely identified as an officer, knowing he was never employed in a law enforcement capacity. He was subsequently arrested without incident after the investigation.
Filipello was released on an appearance ticket. He will be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court at a later date.
