The Rensselaer Police Department says it received a call on Tuesday just after 9 a.m. reporting two men carrying weedwhackers, backpacks, and one suitcase while entering people's yards and knocking on doors in the area of Third Avenue and High Street. Responding officers met the subjects, identified as Garcia-Hernandez and Quilumba, near 146 Third Avenue. Police say Garcia-Hernandez and Quilumba had stolen property taken from at least three separate locations.

Garcia-Hernandez had a warrant for felony drug possession out of New Mexico, according to law enforcement. He was fingerprinted to verify his identity based on the warrant and after it was processed, the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) contacted the police department.

Two Deportation Officers from Enforcement and Removal Operations responded to RPD and both men were found to be in the country illegally. Both men were arraigned in Rensselaer City Court and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail until their court appearances on August 7.
