MS Dhoni Names Jasprit Bumrah as His Favorite Bowler
The great Mahendra Singh Dhoni chose Jasprit Bumrah as his favorite bowler, but the former Indian captain who won multiple World Cups chose not to go with Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli as his preferred hitter.
Bumrah was the most effective regular bowler in the ICC showcase, taking 15 wickets from eight matches at an economy rate of 4.17. He was a key player in India’s recent T20 World Cup victory in the Americas.
Bumrah won the player of the tournament title for his efforts.
“It’s easy to pick my favourite bowler because Bumrah is there. It’s difficult to pick a batsman because we have many good batsmen. But that doesn’t mean bowlers aren’t good,” said Dhoni during a promotional event here.
After the World Cup, Bumrah was given time off, and he is not participating in the current away white ball series against Sri Lanka.
Dhoni stated that it is difficult to choose a single hitter as his favorite because so many of them consistently produce quality hits.
“It’s difficult to pick one among batters as whomever I see batting, he looks the best. But when I see someone else he also looks great.
“But as long as Team India is winning, I don’t want to pick a batter as my favourite. I hope they will keep scoring runs for the team,” Dhoni said.
When a fan asked the 43-year-old Dhoni about his plans for the 2025 edition, he chose not to discuss his IPL future.
“There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court.
“So, once the rules and regulations get formarlised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team,” he added.
The IPL teams are currently split on a number of issues, from the “Impact Player” rule to the mega auction regulations.
The IPL team owners and BCCI secretary Jay Shah held a “constructive dialogue” about a range of topics, which will thereafter be brought before the Arun Dhumal-led IPL Governing Council for additional discussion.
