Cops Probe Whether Washington Post Publisher Tried to Frame British PM

London police are reportedly looking into allegations that Washington Post publisher Will Lewis oversaw an effort to cover up a phone-hacking scandal more than a decade ago as it threatened to engulf Rupert Murdoch’s tabloid empire.

In addition, police are investigating claims Lewis attempted to mislead cops in 2011 by accusing Gordon Brown, then-prime minister of the United Kingdom, of conspiring to steal the emails of Rebekah Brooks–who was chief executive of News International at the time–therefore forcing the deletion of critical documents.

Brown announced in an op-ed for The Guardian on Wednesday that Scotland Yard had informed him it was assigning the matter to a “special enquiry team.”
