Motorcycle officer struck by driver, Lafayette police say
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Lafayette police motorcycle officer is in serious condition after being struck by a driver who is suspected of impairment, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
In a news release, Lafayette police said the officer was struck from behind by a vehicle at around 9:17 p.m. when conducting an escort.
The officer was blocking the entrance ramp onto I-49 p.m. at Gloria Switch Road, police said.
The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The officer is in stable but serious condition, police said.
The driver was taken into custody and impairment is suspected, police said. The suspect was taken to the Lafayette Police Department for further testing.
